Eva Gregory MD receives an award for physician service to medicine and the community Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Onondaga County Medical Society‘s annual dinner meeting. The honor recognizes her work as onsite clinical director at the Onondaga Nation.
Gregory, a member of the executive committee in Upstate’s Department of Family Medicine, has worked on the Nation since 1993. “The culture of the Onondagas is that people are all considered just as important as the next, no matter what the role. Some patients even call me by my first name. We actually oversee the clinic using a ‘steering committee’ of four of us, including two physicians, a nurse practitioner, and our clinical administrator,” she explains.
Gregory also leads teams to underserved countries twice a year to work in mobile medical clinics. For six years she served on the Syracuse Rescue Mission Board of Directors.
She says she is honored to receive the society award, “although my biggest reward is the privilege to be working at the Onondaga Nation and with all those people serving in our rural upstate communities.”
