Faculty, staff and students of Upstate, Syracuse University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry are spending some time outdoors before winter, competing in a Healthy Monday initiative called Walktober.
Participants track their own mileage, whether running, walking, hiking or rolling. Prizes will be awarded to the individual who accumulates the most mileage and to the largest team and the team that accumulates the most mileage.
The competition starts Monday, Sept. 30, but participants must register online with a team or solo by Friday, Sept. 27. The first 200 people to register will receive pedometers. Walktober continues through Sunday, Oct. 27.
Winners will be announced Monday, Oct. 28 during the RUN Scared Halloween Fun Run/Walk at 5:15 p.m. on the Syracuse University quad. This event includes a costume contest, spooky 1-mile walk/roll or a 2-mile run/roll.
