Did you catch The Post-Standard’s story earlier this week showing what a plate of food at Thanksgiving would look like for someone who has undergone weight loss surgery?It doesn’t contain much: one and a half ounces of turkey with a little gravy, two tablespoons of mashed potatoes and a cooked baby carrot.
People who have had the surgery say they face holidays such as Thanksgiving with a renewed effort to focus on family and friends instead of food. Howard Simon MD, director of the Central New York Bariatric Surgery Center, told the newspaper “hunger is the only reason we should eat — that goes for everybody — but particularly these patients. In order to be successful (with weight loss), we need to eat when we’re hungry and stop when we’re not hungry.”
