This Sunday’s HealthLink on Air radio program is devoted to healthy eating, with information about gardening, canning and the value of eating organic fruits and vegetables.
Tune in from 9 to 10 a.m. July 8 on FM Newsradio 106.9, WSYR. Or, listen to individual podcasts, (below) which you can share with friends. First, registered dietitian Maria Erdman and Donna Bacchi MD, chair of Upstate’s Public Health and Preventive Medicine program, will speak about organic v. non-organic foods. Then, hear from respiratory therapist Kristina Sherman, an avid gardener. Finally, Nancy Fasoldt will explain the basics of canning summer’s bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables — and the canning seminar, “I Can 2012” that she is organizing for Aug. 11.
“I Can 2012” is a day-long educational experience taking place at the Liverpool Community Church, 800 Fourth St., Liverpool. Participants will learn to can, freeze and dehydrate the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables available this time of year. For details call 396-9439 or visit ican2012.org.
And, don’t forget: Upstate hosts two farmer’s markets during the summer — Thursdays at the Community campus and Fridays at the Golisano Children’s Hospital. Organizers Bonnie McCabe and Karen Wentworth will speak about the markets July 15 on Health Link on Air.
